Roasting carrots before making the classic dip from Veganomicon. Two kinds of garlic – sweetly roasted, and spicy raw, light, good as a dip for veggies, a spread on crackers or sandwiches.

Nancy’s Favourite Playdoh Recipe!

Nancy’s Favourite Playdoh Recipe!

This was sent to me by my friend Nancy, a fellow American here in Edinburgh. If Nancy says this is the best, I’ll look no further. As written this makes more than 1.5kg of playdoh – so you’ll likely want to scale it back.

Banana Trail Mix Muffins

Banana Trail Mix Muffins

This is basically the America’s Test Kitchen recipe for banana bread muffiins with no added sugar, I added chocolate drizzle on top cos Mary Berry broke me for Banana bread without chocolate and it didn’t seem right to put a crunchy sugar topping on muffins that have no added sugar. I also split up the work over two cooking sessions.

Bunten Stuten (Raisin Bread)

Bunten Stuten (Raisin Bread)

A family recipe – Bunten Stuten appears to mean Colourful (sweet) Bread, similar recipes in English are called Fruit Bread. I don’t know how true this is to Bunten Stuten in Germany, instead of yeast, baking soda is used to leaven. This was a Christmas breakfast tradition growing up in our house. As I’m not a fan of raisins, I’ve swapped them for glace cherries and candied ginger.

Rich Rolled Cardamom Cookies

Rich Rolled Cardamom Cookies

The classic Joy of Cooking rich rolled sugar cookies – they’re tender, not crisp. I wanted to make something a little different from the standard sugar cookie. Enter ground cardamom.
